Our Story
When founder Lindsay Mescher decided to go plant-based in 2008, there were no options in town for healthy, vegetarian take-out and dining. This encouraged her to start creating her own recipes. Her love of cooking and passion for nutrition & whole foods inspired her to dream of one day opening a café with a focus on health and sustainability.
After the sudden loss of her brother, Lindsay “retired” from her career in the music industry and moved home to be with family. This is when she decided to start Greenhouse Cafe in the community that she knows and loves so well, the place she calls home.
In 2023 Lindsay moved on to her next adventure and sold the cafe to Chef Sam Heareth. Sam also grew up here, in Lebanon. She moved down to Cincinnati to attend culinary school and work in some restaurants around the city. In late 2018 she started her own business at Liberty Farm Market teaching cooking classes for kids and adults. When the pandemic hit in 2020 she had to pivot, like much of the industry. Thus the Grassroots Kitchen food truck was born. She brought farm to table comfort food to the community around the market, connecting customers with fresh ingredients from their farm and surrounding farms. After three years of doing the food truck, she was in search of new opportunities. Sam found Greenhouse Cafe for sale in her hometown. She fell in love with the place and the farm to table approach was right up her alley. She achieved her dream of owning a restaurant at the end of March 2023.
